In July 2005, the Iberian-American Association of Mining Geological Services entrusted the Geological Society of Peru to organize the XIII Latin American Congress of Geology in 2008. The SGP in turn has entrusted me with the endeavor of organizing this event along with the XIV Peruvian Congress of Geology. An Organizing Committee was set up for this purpose, made up of mining and oil businessmen as well as renowned researchers and scholars. Our main objective is to develop a technical-scientific program to exceed the expectations of the attendees. Bearing this in mind we have entered into alliances with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) , the Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA) and the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) whose members are contributing to a sound technical agenda. We have also contacted other institutions as well as local and foreign universities whose members are presenting papers for the technical agenda.
These two Congresses shall be held from September 29 through October 3, 2008 under the slogan “Challenges and Progress of Latin American Geology”.
The venue for these events is the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) campus in Lima. Its main auditorium has state-of-the-art facilities with a capacity to seat up to 2000 people. The auxiliary rooms of this auditorium will also be available with a capacity for up to 100 and 240 attendees respectively. We will also use the auditorium of the School of Law and the School of Science and Engineering that can seat 370 and 99 people respectively. Simultaneous Interpretation services will be provided throughout the event. The Technical Exhibition will be organized in a large adjacent area.
We expect to register more than 1,700 geologists and geology-related businessmen for both Congresses. Exploration and exploitation companies as well as service and supply companies will be able to exhibit their projects, products and technologies during the events.
As usual, Peruvian and foreign students will receive attendance scholarships, a fundamental characteristic of the geology congresses organized by the SGP in the past . Student registration requirements shall soon be posted on our website.
Companies who decide to sponsor the activities of the Congresses will have their names published and advertised in our informative newsletters, website, auditoriums and meeting rooms. We look forward to your support and to publicize the name of your company as sponsor of the Congresses that benefit the international community of Geologists.
